Barry and Sally Milburn from Prism Designs
Barry and Sally met at Central School of Art in the 1970’s and have been working together ever since. Barry worked in titanium in his final year while Sally worked in gold and stones which she cut herself. Sally won a De Beers diamond competition during the same year.
They have lived and worked in Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire for 40 years – still being excited and amazed by the colours and effects that titanium produces and constantly exploring new technology and processes to achieve even better results.
Their inspiration comes from nature and a love of colour.
When not creating jewellery, Barry and Sally walk together – sometimes on long distance trails. They have always raced their sailing Dinghy and more recently, travel the country in their VW California, seeing friends and customers.
Our favourite piece has to be the fuchsia earrings and pendant.
Titanium is difficult to work with, hard to file, difficult to cut, almost impossible to join – so often each special job is a challenge.
Our advice to other makers is – try to be different.
Leo de Vroomen has always been our favourite jeweller – Antony Gormley our favourite sculptor.
Unconventional, different and quirky would describe our titanium.
We are actually working on a new gold range using Boulder Opals from Australia where we have just been for 2 weeks, visiting friends who own an opal mine in Queensland.
