After graduating from Sheffield City Polytechnic with a degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing in 1988 I set up in business with a grant from the Prince’s Youth Business Trust. They were fab with business people mentoring and discounted trade fair costs. I could not have done it without them and I even met Prince Charles.
I have been living in Sheffield for just about 30 years. I came to college here and never left. Recently my work has been involved with landscapes so then nearness of the Derbyshire moors has been very important.
I value practical hand making skills in the creation of my designs and I enjoy letting the material influence and to some extent, dictate how the pieces of work evolve during production. I have become increasingly interested in pattern and texture as a result of a recent trip to Iceland where I found the linear texture and patterns in the vastness of the dramatic volcanic landscape very inspiring and much of my work since then has been expanding and exploring landscape ideas.
I have an allotment but I am really rubbish at growing vegetables!
I am really enjoying finding and using unusual stones, one of my favorites is the rutilated quartz one-off rings.

I am reading the Grayson Perry book 'Playing to the Gallery' and some of his comments about the art world are very funny and insightful.
Subtle, texture, patterns.
