Our next #meetthemaker interview is with the lovely Lancaster and Gibbings! Jim and Sarah create photo frames, gifts and cards, each handcrafted from British pewter. Their gifts make perfect christening, birthday or wedding presents. Each piece in their collection has a tactile and organic feel. All of Lancaster and Gibbings' creations are designed and manufactured exclusively in their own workshop based in Totnes, Devon. Read on to find out more!
The Lancaster and Gibbings team - Simon, Jack, Jim, Kate and Farrah.
Jim and his wife Sarah were working at the BBC, Jim has a background in fine art, Sarah in set design. They wanted to do something for themselves. Making things from their kitchen and taking them to the market at the weekend was the starting point. Pewter was relatively easy to work with because of its low melting point and because it was a great material for creating textures and patterns.
Having started a family, Jim and Sarah moved from London to Devon around 20 years ago. Most of what inspires Lancaster and Gibbings is themes of family and nature - (all around us in our beautiful part of the country).
Jim takes an active interest in current trends and designs.
Jim is constantly busy and always onto the next project. When not at work he loves photography, art galleries and spending time with his family.
Jim’s favourite current piece would probably be the Floating Hearts Frame- a Lancaster and Gibbings best seller. Hearts have always been a theme for Lancaster and Gibbings, and are available on many of our products.
